Inspired by beautiful pantries everywhere, I decided to give the OXO POP Containers a try. Here’s my honest review of the OXO Pop Containers.

Last month, I decided to completely revamp my pantry after watching one too many episodes of the Home Edit. I'm a sucker for the Home Edit on Netflix. (Who isn't?!)

After setting up my pantry organization zones, I realized just how chaotic all the boxes - even in zones - looked. So, I ordered my first set of OXO POP Containers. It started with the 3 Piece Cereal Container Set, then the 5 piece POP Container Set, then four more of the 1.7 Qt Containers... and so on. I was hooked. Read below to see my full OXO POP Containers review and the verdict: Are they worth it

The Who: OXO has been making iconic household tools for over thirty years.

The What: Today we're reviewing their beloved OXO POP containers that are used to store and organize everything from flour, sugar, coffee, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, grains, pasta and spices.

About POP OXO Containers

Pros:

Aesthetics - OXO POP containers are absolutely gorgeous. I didn't realize how unsightly all of our mismatched pasta boxes, cereal boxes and oatmeal cans were until I moved them into these containers. They stack really nicely vertically, helping me make a lot better use of our limited pantry space.

Save Time - Using clear containers helps you move faster in the kitchen. You know exactly where things are and how much you have. And pouring food from these containers is so easy! Every morning we use our OXO POP cereal containers. No more opening up a cereal box, seeing if there is even any cereal left, opening the bag, pouring (and always spilling crumbs), and rolling that bag up again. The POP cereal containers just snap open, pour and go. It’s these simple things that add up to a big difference, especially in our cereal loving household.

Know When to Restock - These containers have also helped us become more organized. We used to be that family that just threw boxes into the pantry after grocery shopping. It was a bad habit—and we were never really sure when something ran out or needed restocking. But now, with the clear POP containers, I know at a glance whether we need to restock something.

Cons:

Cost - POP Containers are expensive, and it’s a significant change when you’re not used to paying for containers. The smallest 0.2 Qt container costs $7.99, and the largest containers cost up to $22.99.

Expiration Dates - When transferring items into POP containers, you lose track of expiration dates. This can easily be solved by writing expiration dates onto a small post-it note on the container, or onto the container itself using a dry-erase marker.

Cleaning - The only other con of these containers are that they require more cleaning. If you have kids, more cleaning is not something you ever want to add onto your plate. Cleaning the OXO POP containers is one extra task, but cleaning them is quite simple.

  • If you have the new model, you can simply throw your containers into the dishwasher
  • I still prefer to wash these by hand.
  • Disassemble the lid (lid bottom cover, insert, silicone gasket) and handwash parts using warm soapy water. Wash the container in warm, soapy water. Re-assemble after all parts have dried completely. Below are details on how to clean OXO pop containers (instructions from OXO):

The Verdict: Are OXO Pop Containers Worth It?

Yes, POP containers are worth it. Despite the high price tag, your OXO POP containers will help you keep your home and pantry organized for years to come. They are durable, aesthetically pleasing and help you make the most of limited pantry space by stacking in endless combinations.

Are OXO Containers & Lids Dishwasher Safe?

It depends on your model. If you have the older version of OXO POP Containers, they are not dishwasher safe and it's recommended to hand wash them. Only the silicone gasket in older containers were dishwasher-safe. The new versions of OXO POP Containers and POP Container lids, on the other hand, are now completely dishwasher safe. The new line, commonly referred to as POP 2.0, are designed to withstand high temperatures. Always check the product description and purchase from a trusted retailer to ensure you're buying the POP 2.0 line if you're looking for the dishwasher-safe line.
