According to the Moccamaster website, it is recommended that you use fresh tap, filtered or bottled water.
They do not recommend using reverse osmosis filtered water or distilled water, as they can damage the brewer’s boiling element.
Why can't i use reverse osmosis water in my technivorm moccamaster?
At first, this seemed backwards to me. I have Coway water purifier that uses a Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter to remove impurities. I love my Coway water! I figured the cleaner water would be even better for my Moccamaster coffee.
But it turns out that in reverse osmosis water, as well as distilled water, while the minerals are removed the water’s PH also becomes slightly acidic.
“The water will leach minerals out of the copper boiling element to return to a neutral PH, eventually damaging the copper element permanently.”
In other words, using water that is mineral free will actually ruin the copper boiling element by removing its own minerals to return to a neutral PH.
So, it’s safest to stick to fresh tap, filtered or bottled water.
