We have a small pantry, but it's mighty. I like to say it's just right for our family. With good pantry organization hacks and principles, we've managed to fit an entire family's worth of food and canned goods into a small space in a logical and organized way.
Here are some tips and tricks for organizing a small pantry that I've picked up along the way. Hope they help you too!
1. Use baskets and bins
I know it sounds obvious, but baskets are amazing for holding your smaller items like jars, bars and cans. They let you stack things vertically and give you easy access to everything in one place without having to move things around too much when you're looking for an ingredient or cooking something up. Plus they look cute!
2. Label your bins and shelves
Get yourself a label maker. Seriously. Do it now. It will change your life. And not just because it makes things look nice and organized (though it does), but because once everything has been labeled, you can easily find what you need when you need it—which means less time wasted running around looking for things when dinner's on the stove or your kid needs his medicine ASAP!
3. Get rid of the junk
First things first: purge all the stuff in your pantry! There's no point trying to organize something if it's already full of junk. Take everything out of your pantry, put it in one big pile on the floor (or table), and go through every item one by one. If you're not sure what category an item belongs in, use this opportunity to decide what you want in your pantry and what you don't need anymore.
4. Get clear containers
Buy clear containers, like these OXO Pop containers, so that everything is easy to see and find. Clear containers also make it easier to see how much food has been consumed, which can help reduce waste at home.
5. Utilize your pantry door
Put up shelves on the inside of your pantry door. A lot of people don't know this, but you can easily install some shelves on the inside of your pantry door so that everything is organized and visible at once!
