Toy Closet Organization Tips

A toddler’s playroom is a place for laughter, learning, and imagination. Having an organized toy closet will help your child better engage with their toys, and make clean up faster and easier for you. Follow these simple steps and watch your playroom become a fun, educational space for learning and fun.

Step 1: Do a Toy Audit and Purge

The first step to organizing your toy closet is to do a toy audit. This means going through every single toy in your child's collection and getting rid of the ones that are broken, missing pieces, or just plain worn out. You can involve your child if they are old enough, too!

Have your child pick out a few favorite toys and set them aside. Then, ask them which other toys they would like to keep and which ones they would like to give away or donate. This will make it easier for you to go through all of the toys and decide what should stay or go.

You can use a recycling bin or donate them to charity if they are still in good condition. If your child has outgrown certain toys, you can sell them at a garage sale or send them to relatives who have young children.

Step 2: Declutter and Organize Categories

Once you've decluttered, it's time to sort all the remaining toys into categories based on how they're used (e.g., puzzles, dolls, action figures). It's easier for kids if their toys are grouped together by type, so group them by category and store them in separate boxes or bins in an area where they'll be easy for kids to access when they want to play with them again.

Step 3: Organize toys into clear bins with lids

Use clear plastic bins with lids that fit tightly so children can't take them off. You can label each bin with the name of the toy inside, or just use colors or numbers if you want your kids to learn colors or numbers at an early age.

Use small bins for small items, like blocks or Legos. You can label these individually or put them in larger boxes by type or size.

Use larger bins for bigger items like stuffed animals, dolls and action figures. You might want to label these by character name or type so your child knows exactly where they need to look when they're looking for their favorite toy!

Step 4: Utilize closet doors for more storage

Hang organizers on the doors to hold extra toys or dolls. These organizers are great because they provide easy access so you can grab what you need without having to dig through all of your stuff in the closet. You can also use them as dividers between different areas of your closet (such as storing games on one side and toys on another).

Hopefully, we've helped you get a better idea of how to organize your kids toys. The end result is a clean, safe environment for your child that makes it easy for him or her to pick out something and play without having to rummage through toy piles.
